Medicines for Children

Question: MAre there any medications that could be harmful to an eleven month old baby, even if the package says it is quite safe? i am referring to flu medications and teething medications such as tempra and tylenol. - Viola

Answer:

Tempra and Tylenol are chemically similar medicines that have similar effects. They are both pain and fever reducers.

As with any medications given to children (adults as well), they should be given under the supervision of a doctor. Even though these medications are labeled "safe" for children, side effects and possible allergic reactions may occur. Carefully read directions and instructions for each individual medication before giving it to your child.

There are many over the counter medications available. A pharmacist can be consulted when purchasing these non prescription medications. If you have ANY questions at all, please contact your child's pediatrician.
